SUMMARY:Saturday Morning A and B Group Rides
DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturdays at 8AM for A (20-22mph) and B (17-19mph) group rides.  Routes can be found on our Strava page here. \nAn annual ride waiver is required; if this your first time plan to arrive a few minutes early and check in with any staff member to complete the waiver and get your 2024 waiver sticker. \nAfter the ride\, stop in the shop and enjoy some eats and drinks. \n  \nRide Guidelines \nAs cycling enthusiasts\, group rides offer a great opportunity to connect with fellow riders\, push ourselves individually\, and explore new routes together. Amidst the camaraderie and excitement\, it’s essential to prioritize safety and adhere to proper ride etiquette to ensure an enjoyable experience for all. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the scene\, here’s a guide to navigating the pack safely: \n  \n\nThe Basics:\n\n\nIt’s a GROUP Ride\, not a Race.\nFor insurance reasons\, only individuals who have agreed to these guidelines and signed the group ride waiver may participate in our rides.\nBike Surgeon group rides feature a “NO DROP” policy. We will not leave anyone behind\, but that doesn’t mean we don’t hit the gas. There will be times for going fast and times when we all wait for a complete regroup; these are specified by the Ride Leader so pay attention.\nAll riders must wear a helmet during shop rides and must comply with all rules of the road.\nA rear flashing red light is strongly recommended for all riders to increase visibility.\nBike Surgeon and the ride leaders reserve the right to ask anyone who does not follow these guidelines or rides in an unsafe manner to leave the ride. Our safety and reputation as cyclists within this community depend on you\, thanks for helping out.\n\n  \n\nGroup details\, please know your skills and physique and pick the group that fits yours best:\n\nA Group – Average 20-22 mph. Uses a rotating paceline. A Group riders should be experienced bike handlers who are comfortable in a rotating paceline and can maintain a GPS AVERAGE SPEED of 20mph on a solo ride for over an hour.\nB Group – Average 17-19mph. Rotating paceline option. B Group riders can maintain a GPS AVERAGE SPEED of 17mph on a solo ride for over an hour\, have group ride experience and knowledge of a rotating paceline.\nC Group – Happens at 10A on Saturdays\, hit the link here.\n\n\n\n\nWhen moving up to the next group\, stay in the draft and listen to the ride mentors\, we want you to finish with the group! If it is observed that your skills or fitness do not meet the minimum standards required\, ride leaders will ask you to join the lower group.\n\n  \n\nMaintain Formation and Ride Safety:\n\n\nRide single-file or two wide at maximum. This is at the discretion of the ride leader and condition dependent\, listen for specific instructions. NEVER ride in the oncoming traffic lane.\nWhen waiting at the defined regroup area\, move well off the right side of the road so we don’t interfere with traffic. DO NOT RIDE CIRCLES in the road. We restart only on the ride leader’s direction.\n\n  \n\nRider Responsibly:\n\n\nRespect traffic laws and regulations always. This includes stopping at stop signs/red lights\, yielding to pedestrians\, correct lane use\, and signaling intentions to traffic.\nStay attentive and maintain situational awareness and always look way ahead (50’+). Scan the road ahead for obstacles\, potholes\, or debris that could pose a threat to you or the group. The further out you look the smoother and more stable you will ride.\nAvoid overlapping wheels to prevent collisions and maintain a safe/efficient distance from others.\nThere will be times when braking and shifting is necessary to maintain a consistent pace within the group.\nBe predictable. Shift as needed Ride in a straight line and maintain a steady pace.\n\n  \n\nIn Ride Communication:\n\n\nNO music/earphones/bone conductive devices\, we need you to be able to hear all things!\nUse clear\, concise\, and loud verbal commands (do not scream) to alert fellow riders of approaching traffic\, hazards\, changes in pace\, or the need to slow down or stop. “Car up”\, “car back” “slowing” “stopping” “left turn” “right turn”\nHand signals for turning and stopping are as follows (only use these signals if you are very confident bike handler): Left arm straight out for a left turn. For a right\, right arm straight out or left arm out and bent upwards. Left arm out and down with your palm to the rear to signal slowing or stopping.\n\n  \n\nRespect Fellow Riders\n\n\nBe mindful of your fellow riders’ skill levels and abilities\, adjusting your pace and expectations accordingly.\nAvoid aggressive or erratic behavior that could intimidate or endanger others. Remember\, group rides should be inclusive and enjoyable for everyone involved.\nBe prepared to adjust your riding style and pace based on changing road conditions\, weather patterns\, unexpected obstacles\, and varied skill levels of other riders.\nEncourage camaraderie\, support\, and mutual respect among group members\, celebrating achievements and offering assistance or encouragement when needed.\nEmbrace the opportunity to learn from more experienced riders\, asking questions and seeking advice to improve your skills and confidence.\n\n  \n\nPrepare and Plan Ahead:\n\n\nPlease be punctual\, arrive prior to the ride start with your gear and equipment ready to ride. The ride rolls on schedule.\nConduct a bike check to ensure your equipment is in good working condition\, including brakes\, tires\, and gears\, well before the ride.\nFamiliarize yourself with the planned route\, noting any potential hazards or challenging sections that may require extra caution.\nPrioritize safety above all else.\n\n  \nBy adhering to these principles of safety and etiquette\, we can all enjoy a safe ride. Remember\, you play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for yourself and everyone riding. Saddle up\, stay vigilant\, enjoy the ride! \n

Gary and Cathy Mueller\, the former proprietors of the O’Fallon Egg-and-I and founders of the Jennifer Mueller Memorial foundation\, will be on hand with their world-famous race day pancakes and tons of fresh berries\, fruit and toppings provided by our Team sponsor North Bay Produce. All race participants get in on the breakfast extravaganza and family and friends can get in on the goodness too with a breakfast only registration. A portion of the proceeds from each race registration and all proceeds from the breakfast registrations will go directly to the Jennifer Mueller Memorial Foundation Fund operated by the Mueller’s in memoriam of their daughter Jenn who passed from cancer in 2018.\n\nAll racers also get a sweet O’Town Hustle 5K race tee\, and the first 200 to register get an awesome 2024 O’Town Hustle 5K Finisher medal.\n\nThis event happens as one of the activities at O’Fallon CityFest\, the annual town picnic and carnival that happens in the park Friday\, August 23rd and Saturday\, August 24th. Tons of fun for everyone with rides\, games\, food\, car shows and more; plan to stay around and enjoy the day.\n\nRun Map:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46372599\n\nONLINE Registration is CLOSED\, race day registration will open at 6:45A for those interested in signing up last minute.  $60 with limited t-shirt sizes\, includes breakfast and a finishers medal.
