SUMMARY:Saturday Morning A and B Group Rides
DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturdays at 8AM for A (20-22mph) and B (17-19mph) group rides.  Routes can be found on our Strava page here. \nAn annual ride waiver is required; if this your first time plan to arrive a few minutes early and check in with any staff member to complete the waiver and get your 2024 waiver sticker. \nAfter the ride\, stop in the shop and enjoy some eats and drinks. \n  \nRide Guidelines \nAs cycling enthusiasts\, group rides offer a great opportunity to connect with fellow riders\, push ourselves individually\, and explore new routes together. Amidst the camaraderie and excitement\, it’s essential to prioritize safety and adhere to proper ride etiquette to ensure an enjoyable experience for all. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the scene\, here’s a guide to navigating the pack safely: \n  \n\nThe Basics:\n\n\nIt’s a GROUP Ride\, not a Race.\nFor insurance reasons\, only individuals who have agreed to these guidelines and signed the group ride waiver may participate in our rides.\nBike Surgeon group rides feature a “NO DROP” policy. We will not leave anyone behind\, but that doesn’t mean we don’t hit the gas. There will be times for going fast and times when we all wait for a complete regroup; these are specified by the Ride Leader so pay attention.\nAll riders must wear a helmet during shop rides and must comply with all rules of the road.\nA rear flashing red light is strongly recommended for all riders to increase visibility.\nBike Surgeon and the ride leaders reserve the right to ask anyone who does not follow these guidelines or rides in an unsafe manner to leave the ride. Our safety and reputation as cyclists within this community depend on you\, thanks for helping out.\n\n  \n\nGroup details\, please know your skills and physique and pick the group that fits yours best:\n\nA Group – Average 20-22 mph. Uses a rotating paceline. A Group riders should be experienced bike handlers who are comfortable in a rotating paceline and can maintain a GPS AVERAGE SPEED of 20mph on a solo ride for over an hour.\nB Group – Average 17-19mph. Rotating paceline option. B Group riders can maintain a GPS AVERAGE SPEED of 17mph on a solo ride for over an hour\, have group ride experience and knowledge of a rotating paceline.\nC Group – Happens at 10A on Saturdays\, hit the link here.\n\n\n\n\nWhen moving up to the next group\, stay in the draft and listen to the ride mentors\, we want you to finish with the group! If it is observed that your skills or fitness do not meet the minimum standards required\, ride leaders will ask you to join the lower group.\n\n  \n\nMaintain Formation and Ride Safety:\n\n\nRide single-file or two wide at maximum. This is at the discretion of the ride leader and condition dependent\, listen for specific instructions. NEVER ride in the oncoming traffic lane.\nWhen waiting at the defined regroup area\, move well off the right side of the road so we don’t interfere with traffic. DO NOT RIDE CIRCLES in the road. We restart only on the ride leader’s direction.\n\n  \n\nRider Responsibly:\n\n\nRespect traffic laws and regulations always. This includes stopping at stop signs/red lights\, yielding to pedestrians\, correct lane use\, and signaling intentions to traffic.\nStay attentive and maintain situational awareness and always look way ahead (50’+). Scan the road ahead for obstacles\, potholes\, or debris that could pose a threat to you or the group. The further out you look the smoother and more stable you will ride.\nAvoid overlapping wheels to prevent collisions and maintain a safe/efficient distance from others.\nThere will be times when braking and shifting is necessary to maintain a consistent pace within the group.\nBe predictable. Shift as needed Ride in a straight line and maintain a steady pace.\n\n  \n\nIn Ride Communication:\n\n\nNO music/earphones/bone conductive devices\, we need you to be able to hear all things!\nUse clear\, concise\, and loud verbal commands (do not scream) to alert fellow riders of approaching traffic\, hazards\, changes in pace\, or the need to slow down or stop. “Car up”\, “car back” “slowing” “stopping” “left turn” “right turn”\nHand signals for turning and stopping are as follows (only use these signals if you are very confident bike handler): Left arm straight out for a left turn. For a right\, right arm straight out or left arm out and bent upwards. Left arm out and down with your palm to the rear to signal slowing or stopping.\n\n  \n\nRespect Fellow Riders\n\n\nBe mindful of your fellow riders’ skill levels and abilities\, adjusting your pace and expectations accordingly.\nAvoid aggressive or erratic behavior that could intimidate or endanger others. Remember\, group rides should be inclusive and enjoyable for everyone involved.\nBe prepared to adjust your riding style and pace based on changing road conditions\, weather patterns\, unexpected obstacles\, and varied skill levels of other riders.\nEncourage camaraderie\, support\, and mutual respect among group members\, celebrating achievements and offering assistance or encouragement when needed.\nEmbrace the opportunity to learn from more experienced riders\, asking questions and seeking advice to improve your skills and confidence.\n\n  \n\nPrepare and Plan Ahead:\n\n\nPlease be punctual\, arrive prior to the ride start with your gear and equipment ready to ride. The ride rolls on schedule.\nConduct a bike check to ensure your equipment is in good working condition\, including brakes\, tires\, and gears\, well before the ride.\nFamiliarize yourself with the planned route\, noting any potential hazards or challenging sections that may require extra caution.\nPrioritize safety above all else.\n\n  \nBy adhering to these principles of safety and etiquette\, we can all enjoy a safe ride. Remember\, you play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for yourself and everyone riding. Saddle up\, stay vigilant\, enjoy the ride! \n

Amidst the camaraderie and excitement\, it’s essential to prioritize safety and adhere to proper ride etiquette to ensure an enjoyable experience for all. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the scene\, here’s a guide to navigating the pack safely: \n\nThe Basics:\n\n\nIt’s a GROUP Ride\, not a Race.\nFor insurance reasons\, only individuals who have agreed to these guidelines and signed the group ride waiver may participate in our rides.\nBike Surgeon group rides feature a “NO DROP” policy. Our safety and reputation as cyclists within this community depend on you\, thanks for helping out.\n\n  \n\nGroup details\n\nC Group – Average 14-16mph. Recreational fun enthusiast group ride great for new and experienced riders alike.\nA and B Groups roll at 8AM on Saturdays\, get to their event details here.\n\n\n\n  \n\nMaintain Formation and Ride Safety:\n\n\nRide single-file or two wide at maximum.

If it is observed that your skills or fitness do not meet the minimum standards required\, ride leaders will ask you to join the lower group.\n\n\n\n  \n\nMaintain Formation and Ride Safety:\n\n\nRide single-file or two wide at maximum. SUMMARY:Tour de Surgéon X 2025
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Annual Tour de Surgeon is on! July 5th – 27th\, 2025\nThe Tour de Surgeon X is ON. This year we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of le Tour de Surgéon with even more than normal\, get ready it’s time to RIDE! Saturday\, July 5th – Sunday\, July 27\, 2025. This 3-week event at Bike Surgeon coincides with the Tour de France. Each day that there is a ride stage in the Tour de France\, there is a ride stage in the Tour de Surgeon. This event comes with everything you’d expect from the real tour\, except A LOT more fun\, as you get to ride\, not just watch! \nTo celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Tour in proper fashion we have added a BUNCH of HUGE PRIZES!!  And when we say HUGE\, we mean HUGE!  Prizes\, and how to win them\, will be announced on the first day of the tour and posted here shortly thereafter. \nTour de Surgeon is a points-based competition. This is NOT a race. \nThere are several ways in which to accumulate points in each stage: \n\nSign in and ride the stage. You get the biggest points for simply participating. 10 points for each official TDS Ride and 20 points for each off-site ride (7/6\, 7/9\, 7/10\, 7/13\, 7/17\, 7/20\, 7/24) you sign into and ride. The sign-in binder will be handled by one of our crew\, find that person in the shop or at the off-site ride and make sure to sign in. If you do your own remote ride\, not with the designated daily ride\, but rather a ride on your own\, you can earn 5 points. (please send Strava documentation to info@bikesurgeon.com within 24 hours of the ride time to get these points)\nApparel – Dress in a previous year Tour de Surgéon jersey or Pro Team jersey (3 points). Let the crew member who has the sign in sheet know you have a qualifying jersey on to get your points.\nSocial media – This one is worth three points per post\, one post per day. Please upload your pictures from a stage to Facebook or Instagram with #tourdesurgeon; also feel free to tag one or multiple sponsors; using the @ sign before each business name to have them come up correctly: Bike Surgeon\, The Korte Company\, Gilster Mary-Lee\, Smoothie King O’Fallon\, North Bay Produce\, Lagunas Roofing\, Aggressive Graphics\, Cardin Photography & Motion\, Superior Construction\, Raymond James\, Barnes Properties\, Roots\, Le Ono\, ReMax Emily Greenstreet\, Cycle Life Cycle. At the next time you check in for a TDS ride show the crew member in charge of check in your post and they will notate your points. We used to be able to handle this check via the social platforms\, but due to changes (thanks bookFace) we can no longer guarantee consistency in that way of scoring so we have gone back to the old school way of doing it\, show us your post in person and get points for it on the following day.\nAt the end of the event\, the most Clever/Creative/Epic picture or video of the year involving a team sponsor will be selected for a 25 point bonus (selected by a third party judging panel). To participate in this piece of the competition please shoot a link to your awesome post to us at: info@bikesurgeon.com.\nStrava segment – Each TDS official ride will have a designated Strava segment – top 3 times for both male and female to get bonus points (3 points for 1st\, 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for 3rd) **You must participate/ride with the group to earn this bonus. Segments will not be announced/published prior to the beginning of the ride.\nIndividual Time Trial (ITT) Points – The Individual Time Trials will happen on Wednesday\, July 9th and Friday\, July 18th.  Something new for this year\, we will have one TT as we always have\, results based on the accuracy of your predicted finish time\, with NO electronics or time keeping devices allowed that particular day.  This one will be scored as one overall category with 20 Points for 1st thru 2 Points for 10th place.  The other TT will be wide open\, scored on actual time\, male and female categories with age groups every 10 years (10-19\, 20-29…..race age will be your age on December 25th\, 2025).  You read that right\, a real TT\, on open roads of course\, so it’s your responsibility to follow all rules of the road and ride safe.\nOffsite Rides – This year we will have more offsite ride locations throughout the event than ever. These will happen: Stage 2\, July 6th; stage 5\, July 9th;  stage 6\, July 10th; stage 9\, July 13th; stage 12\, July 17th; stage 15\, July 20th; and stage 18\, July 24th. These seven rides will be the only official TDS events of that day. The locations and times will be announced on our facebook event for the TDS and you get extra attendance points for participating in these rides (20 points vs the 10 points for a regular TDS ride).\nTheme Nights: On Stage 4\, July 8th; Stage 11\, July 16th\, and Stage 17\, July 23rd there will be a specific theme for the ride. If you dress yourself or your bike in that theme you will receive 3 points. Best dressed each theme night will receive an additional 10 points. (Winner will be selected by Bike Surgeon staff that are NO participating in the ride)\n21 Stages Completed – Anyone that participates in all 21 stage (max of two of your own remote rides not at official TDS event site) will receive a 25 point bonus \n\nAll rides other than the ITT’s will be at B pace (17-19mph AVERAGE) and roll Monday – Friday at 6pm (keep an eye out for those rest days\, 7/15 and 7/21); Saturdays at 8am and Sundays at 5pm. If that pace is beyond your skill-set you can sign in with all of the other riders for the TDS and do a ride at your own pace\, the important part is you are out riding and rolling from the shop with us. \nThe top three point’s earners each week (after stages 7\,14 and 21) get in on some wicked cool prizes. The Overall top three point-holders at the end of the Tour de Surgéon will WIN a 2023 version of the limited release Tour de Surgéon jersey FREE. The rest of the top ten can grab one of these jerseys at 50% off and anyone with at least 10 TDS points can grab a jersey at 25% off.  Those are the regular TDS prizes\, the HUGE 10th Anniversary prizes will be announced at the first TDS ride of the year and posted here shortly thereafter. \nThe Tour de Surgeon is not only a great chance to build HUGE fitness and have fun on your bike\, but you can also earn big money for riding your bike! For every point you earn in this year’s Tour\, you will earn $1 towards the purchase of a new carbon bike for yourself in 2025. Crunch those numbers: 10 points for showing up to each stage; 3 points for wearing a tour or pro team jersey; 3 points for uploading your pictures to social media and a potential 3 bonus points for Strava segments…almost $20 for one night of riding! Multiply that out over the course of 3 weeks\, and you can accumulate some nice cash toward a new ride! \nAll Tour de Surgeon rides are posted at: https://www.strava.com/clubs/16909
