Amidst the camaraderie and excitement\, it’s essential to prioritize safety and adhere to proper ride etiquette to ensure an enjoyable experience for all. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the scene\, here’s a guide to navigating the pack safely: \n\nThe Basics:\n\n\nIt’s a GROUP Ride\, not a Race.\nFor insurance reasons\, only individuals who have agreed to these guidelines and signed the group ride waiver may participate in our rides.\nBike Surgeon group rides feature a “NO DROP” policy. Uses a rotating paceline. A Group riders should be experienced bike handlers who are comfortable in a rotating paceline and can maintain a GPS AVERAGE SPEED of 20mph on a solo ride for over an hour.\nB Group – Average 17-19mph. Rotating paceline option. B Group riders can maintain a GPS AVERAGE SPEED of 17mph on a solo ride for over an hour\, have group ride experience and knowledge of a rotating paceline.\nC Group – Average 14-16mph. Recreational fun enthusiast group ride great for new and experienced riders alike.\n\nWhen moving up to the next group\, stay in the draft and listen to the ride mentors\, we want you to finish with the group! If it is observed that your skills or fitness do not meet the minimum standards required\, ride leaders will ask you to join the lower group.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaintain Formation and Ride Safety:\n\n\nRide single-file or two wide at maximum. This is at the discretion of the ride leader and condition dependent\, listen for specific instructions. NEVER ride in the oncoming traffic lane.\nWhen waiting at the defined regroup area\, move well off the right side of the road so we don’t interfere with traffic. DO NOT RIDE CIRCLES in the road. We restart only on the ride leader’s direction.\n\n\nRider Responsibly:\n\n\nRespect traffic laws and regulations always. This includes stopping at stop signs/red lights\, yielding to pedestrians\, correct lane use\, and signaling intentions to traffic.\nStay attentive and maintain situational awareness and always look way ahead (50’+). Scan the road ahead for obstacles\, potholes\, or debris that could pose a threat to you or the group. The further out you look the smoother and more stable you will ride.\nAvoid overlapping wheels to prevent collisions and maintain a safe/efficient distance from others.\nThere will be times when braking and shifting is necessary to maintain a consistent pace within the group.\nBe predictable. Shift as needed Ride in a straight line and maintain a steady pace.\n\n\nIn Ride Communication:\n\n\nNO music/earphones/bone conductive devices\, we need you to be able to hear all things!\nUse clear\, concise\, and loud verbal commands (do not scream) to alert fellow riders of approaching traffic\, hazards\, changes in pace\, or the need to slow down or stop. “Car up”\, “car back” “slowing” “stopping” “left turn” “right turn”\nHand signals for turning and stopping are as follows (only use these signals if you are very confident bike handler): Left arm straight out for a left turn. For a right\, right arm straight out or left arm out and bent upwards. TTT will be scored in two separate ways; with each member receiving the amount of points the team earns: top three actual times 10 for 1st\, 5 for 2nd and 3 for 3rd and to the top three most accurate teams10 for 1st\, 5 for 2nd and 3 for 3rd. This is the best way to celebrate our freedom and the 250th celebration of the founding of our country\, plan to join in on this one!\n\n\nThe RIDE White and Blue will roll from Bike Surgeon HQ in downtown O’Fallon at 6PM on Friday\, July 3rd\, with a ride for everyone. With this being a fun evening ride this year\, we will be doing things a bit differently. First up\, costumes/bike decoration/lighted bikes are strongly encouraged\, embrace the fun\, dress up in red\, white and blue and let’s have some fun! Next up\, rides this year will be more chill. For the adults wanting something longish\, we will be doing a neighborhood tour throughout O’Fallon\, ~10 miles of fun. The other ride option is for EVERYONE else\, up the bike trail\, with turn arounds at ~2 miles (for the youngest and oldest amongst us) and ~5 miles.\n\n\nAt the conclusion of the ride\, we kick off BRUNCH for dinner. With waffles\, pancakes\, bacon wrapped pancakes\, breakfast casserole\, bacon\, a bunch of fresh fruits from our friends at North Bay Produce and all kinds of other great eats and juice! Unquestionably the best brunch in all of O’Fallon on the 3rd of July.\n\n\nEveryone is welcome for this super fun and tasty event. $25 per person ($10 per kid 14YO and under) gets you in on the ride\, the brunch\, and the unleaded drinks. FUN drinks will be for purchase including our world famous “Saturday Market Bloody Mary’s\, Mimosas and Adult Lemonade” and our whole selection of micro-brews.
